 Police arrest 4 suspects for certificate forgery in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command has arrested four suspects for criminal conspiracy and certificate forgery.

Spokesman for the command, ASP Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, September 22, named the suspects as Sule Idris, 50, Suleiman Abubakar, 37, both of Tunga-goro Minna, Suleiman Garba, 41, of Gidan-kuka Minna, and Bright Echebini, 40, of Tunga Minna

Kano State government challenges anyone with evidence of election killing to ?come forward with proof?


The Kano State Government has challenged anyone with proof of killings during the supplementary governorship election of March 23 to come forward with it.

Malam Mohammed Garba, the Commissioner of Information, gave the challenge while addressing a news conference in Kano. According to Garba, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed two persons were killed in Nasarawa Local Government but when they went to the area and to Nasarawa Hospital, they were unable to get report of any death.

The Chief Judge of Osun, Justice Oyebola Ojo, on Thursday, ordered the release of 13 inmates awaiting trial from Ile-Ife prison.


The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the inmates that regained freedom were said to have overstayed in prison without trial.
Those released were: Ogundipe Sunday, who spent over eight years without trial over alleged armed robbery,  Ojo Stephen, being in custody for over six years, over alleged armed robbery and Hafeez Kosamotu, was incarcerated for over three  years over alleged conspiracy/murder

Reggae Music officially added by the UN as a cultural treasure worth protecting



The United Nations have included the Reggae genre on its list of international cultural treasures that should be promoted and protected so as not to fade away.

The popular genre which developed in the early 60s from the streets of Jamaica inspired by artists like Toots and the MaytalsPeter Tosh and Bob Marley, has recently been added to the UN's collection of cultural treasures due to its "intangible cultural heritage".

US television celebrity Oprah Winfrey on Thursday paid emotional tribute to Nelson Mandela as she prepared to host a star-studded concert in Johannesburg to cap celebrations marking 100 years since his birth.

Winfrey will co-host the Global Citizen festival on Sunday, where artists including Beyonce, Jay-Z, Cassper Nyovest, Ed Sheeran, Pharrell Williams and Chris Martin will perform.
The concert is the climax of a year of events celebrating the centennial of Mandela's birth in 1918, and is part of a campaign to tackle poverty, child malnutrition and boost gender equality.

INEC promotes 2,209 staff members

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says it has promoted 2,209 members of staff in its 2018 promotion exercise.

The Commission disclosed this in a statement issued by Mr Mohammed Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Member, Information and Voter Education Committee on Thursday in Abuja.
The breakdown of the promoted staff according to Haruna in made up of -847 junior and 1,362 senior staff.

West Africa leaders meet over Boko Haram escalation

Top leaders from Chad, Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon were holding talks in N'Djamena on Thursday to discuss the recent escalation of attacks by Boko Haram jihadists in the Lake Chad area.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and Niger's Mahamadou Issoufou flew into the Chadian capital where they were holding closed-door talks with Chad's Idriss Deby and Cameroon's Prime Minister Philemon Yang, an AFP correspondent said.
The meeting, which began during the morning, was focused on "the security situation in Lake Chad", a strategic area where the borders of four countries converge and where there has been a worrying "resurgence" of attacks in recent months, a Chadian diplomatic source said.
