Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, welcomes the heated debate sparked by the programme “We are thrilled to see the passion with which people are engaging in the discussion about the Best Naija Tracks.  There has been concern in some quarters that the list didn’t include some of Nigeria’s most seminal artists and songs – it seems as if some people may have misinterpreted the campaign. This list of tracks, as voted by the public, was never intended to reflect the Best Naija Tracks of all time; the creation of this campaign is part of the build up to our 10th birthday and it was supposed to highlight artistes that have been played on our channel since the launch of MTV Base in 2005, hence the title “The Best Naija Tracks Ever on MTV Base”. We understand that the positioning could have been misleading on some of our platforms and we regret any confusion caused.”

“As a brand, we acknowledge and respect the fact that Nigeria has a long music history beyond the last 10 years and our work since launching MTV Base is to help develop and showcase the best of Nigerian and African music to a global audience.  The “Best Naija Tracks Ever on MTV Base” campaign is really about celebrating the new generation of talent who have benefitted from the legends who paved the way for their successes today.”

Continued Okosi, “The important thing is that everyone has their own views about what makes a great song or a great artist, and we’re keen to hear their thoughts. We are continuing the debate and encouraging music fans to further engage with the campaign via our digital media platforms.  We will also be filming a special MTV Base Nigerian music roundtable in Lagos on this topic, featuring artistes, DJs and music industry experts.  The roundtable will air on MTV Base in November 2014 as part of the channel’s build up to our 10th birthday celebrations. Simultaneously, MTV Base is challenging music fans to create their own lists of Best Naija Tracks, and to post them on MTV Base social media assets, or to get involved in the conversation by using the hashtag #BaseBestNaijaTracks. Those engaging in the campaign stand the chance to have their comments featured in the roundtable discussion on MTV Base.”

The family of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi has been stricken with grief after the alleged assassination of the general’s older sister, Saratu and her granddaughter.

The incident is believed to have occurred between 3p.m. and 4p.m. yesterday October 5 at the residence of the deceased in the Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi state.

The victims were hit on the head with a pestle and their bodies dumped in a well, ThisDay reports.

The deaths were reportedly confirmed to journalists by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ishaku Bariu in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

He said:

"We have beefed up security with foot, motorcycle and vehicle patrol. People are going about their lawful businesses as investigation into the unfortunate killing of Mama and her granddaughter continues,"

"She and her granddaughter were murdered and then dragged into the well inside the compound. I don't think it was by the use of gun. They used a pestle to attack them.”

The commissioner also added that assassination was suspected because the deceased had money in her home but it was left untouched by the attackers.

By SAHARA REPORTERS NEW YORK.

An investigation by SaharaReporters has revealed that a Nigerian private jet caught in Johannesburg with $10 million belongs to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, the head of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Mr. Oritsejafor is also a close confidant of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ayo Oritsejafor The CAN leader’s private plane with US registration number N808HG was one of two jets cited by South African officials on September 5 Mr. Oritsejafor's jet arrived South Africa with $9.3 million cash loaded in several suitcases. Nigerian aviation authorities disclosed that one of the jets belonged to Pastor Oritsejafor while the second one was registered to Felix Idiga, the owner of Jafac Aviation Limited.

Two Nigerians and an Israeli defense contractor, Eyal Mesiaka arrived in the jet when they were accosted in South Africa authorities. A South African source disclosed that Mr. Oritsejafor's jet was released after top Nigerian officials intervened, claiming that the weapons to be purchased had the official blessing of the Nigerian government. At first, he pretended and claimed that he was the Aide De camp to Mr. Idiga. But when our correspondent identified himself as a reporter from Sahara Reporters, he owned he started answering questions relating to the issues but claimed the jet we published on our site wasn’t his own. Asked if he knew of another private jet named in apparent arms buy in South Africa, he asked where we got our information after we read the jet registration number to him. He then denied that his jet was involved, before hastily hanging up the phone.

Meet the Billionaire who is Proof that Money CAN'T Buy Happiness
As one of the richest men in Britain, John Caudwell possesses a £2 billion fortune and all the grown-up toys that go with it: two vast mansions, a yacht, a helicopter and a fleet of luxury cars.

John Caudwell with his partner of 15 years Claire Johnson.
His home in Staffordshire is a £10 million Jacobean affair, and the one in London is an £85 million ‘super mansion’ that once belonged to a playboy member of the Brunei ruling family. According to DailyMail, the man, John Caudwell, once known as the Mobile Phone King, and founder of Phones 4U, is the first to admit he enjoys his wealth.
‘My favourite thing is to come down to London from my home in Staffordshire in the helicopter and then get my bike out of the back and cycle into London. It’s wonderful.’
It is a lifestyle that naturally engenders envy — until you discover that all is not as it seems behind the gilded doors of those opulent homes.

Mr Caudwell's £10million Jacobean country retreat manor house in Staffordshire
Recently it emerged that Caudwell’s eldest son Rufus, 19, his youngest child by ex-wife Kathryn McFarlane, suffers severe agoraphobia - extreme or irrational fear of crowded spaces or enclosed public places. The affliction is so bad that the boy with the world at his feet spends most of his days confined to his bedroom, unable to leave the house.

This week, meanwhile, Caudwell revealed that he and his partner of 15 years, Claire Johnson, have taken the reluctant decision to separate, leaving them both ‘desperately worried’ about the impact on the son they have together, ten-year-old Jacobi.
‘We have been growing apart for some time, but it has taken many agonising conversations to get to the point where we have been forced to acknowledge it would be better for us to be separate rather than together. Jacobi has been at the forefront of our minds through all of it, and of course we’re worried. All we can do is reassure him that he has two parents who love him very much and who will do everything in their power to be there for him.’

With son Rufus

Still, it is far from an ideal situation — especially given the plight of Rufus, by all accounts a gentle soul who has been so crippled by agoraphobia for the past eight years that he has had periods of being unable to leave his room for days on end.
‘It’s heartbreaking,’ says John, speaking about the situation for the first time. ‘We have had eight-and-a-half years of watching Rufus struggle with this thing and trying to make the best of it. He is a lovely, gifted boy and it’s so very sad to see what he is going through. He is surrounded by a lot of love, but love can’t solve the problem. If only it could.’

Nor, indeed can Caudwell’s many millions.
‘I would be the first to say that while a lack of money can cause misery, money doesn’t buy you happiness,’ he adds quietly. ‘When it comes to something like this, money doesn’t come into it. It can give you access to different people and help, but it doesn’t change the helplessness you feel when you see your own flesh and blood struggling. The only really important thing, at the end of the day, is your health. If you haven’t got that, then all the money in the world isn’t going to bring you happiness.’
Caudwell still shaves his own head and beard with a pair of clippers, rarely spends more than £30 on a bottle of wine and would far rather cycle than take a taxi. Caudwell says that as well as giving half his business profits to charity during his lifetime, the vast bulk of his wealth will also be donated in his will.
