For starters, I first met Honourable Yakubu Oseni in February 2016. That was a period when i was still working as a Political Correspondent with the Graphic Newspaper. I make body to say that the graphic newspaper is one of the best state governments owned newspaper in the entire country today. My brief contact with Hon. Oseni on that faithful day was in line of my duty. Recall that i was covering the then board of internal revenue as part of my official beats. I met Hon. Oseni on his first day in office as the then executive chairman.
As a confident reporter, I approached him after his familiarities tour of his new office. I demanded for an impromptu exclusive interview. My request for an interview was politely turned down on the ground that he had an appointment with his Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello. Hon. Oseni gave me an assurance that he would speak with me the next day in his office.
As early as 7am, I was already waiting for him in his office. To my surprise, Hon. Oseni came into office at exactly 7:30am and promptly asked me to begin my interview as requested by him. To cut long story short, that singular interview which lasted more than an hour was one of the best I had in my entire years in graphic newspaper before i called it quit with active journalism in 2016. During the interview section with Hon. Oseni, he spoke eloquently about his agenda and vision to turn around the poor revenue generation from then board. Hon. Oseni spoke as a man of intellectual capacity and managerial acumen. His brilliance and command good of English was so visible and flowing like a river. That was my first impression and perception of the quality of Alhaji Oseni.
Recall that before his well-deserved appointment as chairman of the board, he was already working as a senior manager with first bank Nigeria PLC in Abuja. If you know what it takes to rise to his former position as season banker, he must have been found competent, honest and a high level of integrity. The Hon. Oseni I know for the past three years of my rapport with such a bright mind as Hon. Oseni during the interview, he exhibited a man that is focused and inbuilt with innovative ideas to turn around the poor performance of the then board of internal revenue.
As a measure of his self-discipline and purposely leadership, he grew the IGR to a record of over one billion naira monthly even as we speak.
I later came to realize that Hon. Oseni was a workaholic and a political leader full of uncommon human compassion and selfless service to humanity. His office up till today has become a mecca of sort for all individuals. Group of people from all works of life beseech him with one problem or the other that needed succour to enable them navigate their lives as under privilege citizens of Kogi state.
Hon. Oseni has proved to be a pillar of support and financial assistance to all people that are in one need or the other.
In conclusion, therefore, i wish to avert that when searching for a worthy and credible and trustworthy Senator for Kogi central in the next dispensation, Hon. Oseni eminently qualify to take his rightly place in the upper chamber of the National Assembly by the special grace of God who will honour him with that position, so that he will continue to become a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration to up and coming young generation of political leadership.
Last word, Hon. Oseni has given the assurance that when he gets his mandate of the good people of Kogi central, he will be a vocal, vibrant, committed and astute politician.
I am convinced that the Hon. Oseni i know would not warm the bench, be docile, deaf and dumb. So my good people of Kogi central, what else are we looking for as our next Senator when we have a calibre of Hon. Oseni who is capable and competent to change the narrative of our poor representation at the National Assembly as witnessed since the golden era of late Senator (Engr.) A. T Ahmed of blessed memory. Oseni Yakubu is the only option we have today to bring development and visible dividends of democracy that we are in dear need at a time like this. I rest my case.
