Following the massive success of Patty Jenkins' female-led superhero movie "Wonder Woman," which has grossed over $500 million, Gal Gadot’s low paycheck is receiving a lot of attention.
Reports have surfaced that the actress was paid just 300 thousand dollars for her role as the titular character.
In 2014, Variety reported that Gadot signed a three-picture deal with Warner Bros. Studios for 300 thousand dollars per film - "Batman v. Superman," "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League."
Her pay is receiving fresh attention following the box office success of the movie which has proven to be one of the most critically successful films in the DC Extended Universe.
While her pay is on the same level with Chris Evans' for his debut as Captain America in the Marvel Universe, Gadot's pay is incomparable to that of her ‘DC Extended Universe’ counterparts.
According to Forbes, Henry Cavill received $14 million for his role in "Man of Steel" while Christian Bale earned £7 million for his first role as Batman in 2005.
The issue of Gadot's low pay has once again kicked off conversations around the Hollywood pay gap.
In an interview, Natalie Portman had revealed that Ashton Kutcher was paid three times more for "No Strings Attached."
In 2016, Robin Wright who plays Claire Underwood in "House of Cards," revealed that she had threatened to go public if she didn't receive equal pay with her co-star Kevin Spacey, who was receiving $500,000 per episode in 2014, while she was receiving an estimate of $420,000 in 2015.
Gal Gadot will reprise her role as the superhero in "Justice League" which debuts this November.
